MuHEF (Muhimbili Health Exchange Forum) |
|
This online forum facilitates communication and the flow of health information to and from the districts, regions, health experts and postgraduate students. The website contains recent health publications and guidelines from WHO,MoHSW focusing on policy , training and treatment of various conditions. Additionally, there is a Question and Answer facility, which allows health staff working in the Regions of Tanzania to ask questions and receive answers from experts working in Muhimbili National Hospital, Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute and the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). Prior to the development of MuHEF a study was done early 2003 amongst the health workers from all the regions to determine the actual information needs of those working in the peripheries. A CD-Rom version of the website is produced quarterly to improvise for those who have no access to the internet and distributed freely to all the districts. For more information visit: www.muhef.or.tz Rationale Many African countries features a lack of specialised doctors, especially in rural areas. Due to unsatisfactory transport systems and poor telecommunications, doctors in rural areas are often denied the possibilities of sustaining dialogue with their colleagues in specialized hospitals. Essential and up-to-date information for the tasks of management and efficient planning and implementation of measures in the public health sector are often lacking. Possible consequences of this situation are poor quality of services, a lack of motivation on the part of health staff and the so-called "brain-drain" - both within countries as well as over international borders. MuHEF aims at making it easier for health workers to update their health knowledge and inform them where relevant services can be sought.
