Pius Tubeti (MD, DPH, Certificate in Epidemiology) is the Regional Medical Officer of Kagera since 2002. He has also been the regional medical officer of Shinyanga, Mtwara and Tanga regions between 1987 and 1999. In Kagera he is in charge of both curative and preventive health services in the region. He has district medical officers in each of the districts in the region and programme managers for the major health problems such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Dr. Tubeti has published six papers as the first author and ten papers as a co-author. Topics include the epidemiology of hypertension, epidemiology of HIV/AIDS, adolescent reproductive health issues, maternal mortality and health financing. He is one of the co-investigators of the Kagera AIDS research project (KARP) within the TANSWED programme supported by sida/SAREC.
