Head of Unit

Dr. Deo Mzurikwao,


Deogratias received his Ph.D. from the University of Kent on the Applications of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare in 2020. He previously did his master's in AI at Tianjin University, in China. Deogratias has been researching and practicing machine learning, deep learning, image and voice signal processing which are the core elements of Artificial Intelligence, since 2012.

Assistant Lecturer

Dr. Simeon Mayala,


He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Dodoma. He is an alumnus of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) where he graduated with a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences. He is also a graduate of the University of Dar es Salaam where he graduated with a Master of Science in Mathematical Modeling. He is a PhD student at the Department of Mathematics - University of Bergen Norway.

Tutorial Assistant

Eng. Asmin Issa,


In November 2022, she transitioned into the role of a Tutorial Assistant (TA) at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) Within the Biomedical Engineering unit, she plays an active role in fostering the academic and professional growth of students. Through sharing her knowledge and experiences, she helps shape and inspire the upcoming generation of professionals in the field. She is also working on a project to develop AI algorithm for screening of TB among people living with HIV led by Dr. Mzurikwao at Emerging Technologies for Health Research and Development laboratory at MUHAS (ETH).

Dr. Eduard E. Bahingayi,


He is currently a lecturer at the Biomedical engineering unit of the department of Physiology at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). His research interests are in the areas of wireless communications and signal processing. He also has interest in emerging technologies for healthcare systems such as IOT for healthcare, Virtual reality and Augmented Reality. He received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC) in 2020.
